Accepting our fate

We cannot predict the future and we cannot change the past. These are two important things to remember as we play out the different poker hands life deals us. While we play out each hand, we have to take the losses with the wins. Not every hand will seem fair. Sometimes we may feel outmatched. Sometimes we may have to fold, but it’s up to us to keep anteing up as we continue to learn from each previous hand in the poker game of life.
We may find ourselves dealing with setbacks or obstacles that can seem insurmountable at times. We may wonder how we got ourselves into such a situation that we cannot seem to find our way out of. Or even worse, we may find it difficult to muster up the courage and strength to move on. It’s in times like these where acknowledging our options can help us to accept what is, and plan accordingly. Sometimes, there are no good options, but they are all better than denying the inevitable.
We may not always like what fate has handed us, but our problems will not go away by just ignoring them. They typically go away more easily when we face them head on. The sooner, the better. We can complain about it. We can throw ourselves a little self-pity party for one. We can pretend the issue will resolve itself, but will it? Typically, when…
