Choosing who we become

How amazing is it that we have the ability to choose how we live our life? Once we become adults, (hopefully) we do not have our parents telling us what to do anymore . We choose our career path. We choose our friends. We choose our significant other. We choose how we treat others and ourselves. We also choose how we approach life. There are always other variables like our DNA and upbringing, but for the most part, we have become the product of the choices we made up until today. We will continue shaping who we are by every choice we make moving forward.
It may be a bit frightening realizing how much power we actually have over our own lives, especially if we aren’t exactly living the kind of life we once anticipated. I always liked the quote attributed to John Lennon, “Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.” It can be easy to set our life to auto-pilot and allow life to happen to us instead of living more intentionally and making more of an effort to make life happen for us. It takes conscious effort and resilient dedication to our plans.
We also develop our character and personality over time. If we are doing it right, we become more aware of our intentions and actions as we grow older and wiser. We learn what works…
