Smile! It’s good for you

There is something about a smile, whether given or received, that positively affects everyone involved. Smiling is a great way to spread cheer and brighten up everyone’s day. We all know that. Smiling also elevates our moods and helps us to live longer. We also reduce our stress levels and strengthen our immune systems, lowering our blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart disease, all from the simple act of smiling. Smiling is also a great reminder that, even when life gets tough, there is always something to be grateful for. Smiling is the appreciation we express toward life and each other.

Smiling is much easier to do when life seems to be going swimmingly. It’s tougher to do when we experience turbulence and life attempts to steal our smile from us. We end up learning as we get older that life will always be looking for ways to deny us the satisfaction of smiling. There are plenty of emojis to express the discontent we experience when interacting with life and other people. To improve our own quality of life, we can look to balance our discontent with reasons to smile while appreciating life and each other.
